Okay, solved my problem. It was the "Multi Output Mode" setting in the Shift Switcher plugin. I had to set it to "On activated output" because I was using a VGA port on my laptop to mirror output to a projector. The plugin now works with the laptop screen and the projector. I also tried the "One big switcher" option, and it also works.
