oh, i've done your tip. So i deleted the dirs .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome2,
.gnome-private, .icons, .themes, .local

Well, first i made a backup off all these dirs. That fixed everything.
After a restart all icons were fixed.

I've done the following, after that the icons broken:

1. freshly installed 8.04
2. installed Blubuntu Theme
3. installed some apps (gnome and kde) out of the ubuntu repositories.
4. and i guess it was the kde app umbrello that crashed my icons, but that is
only a guess.

under Blubuntu i got a for all broken icons a monitor icon with a red
cross in it. That was all.

After deleting the .local some off the java apps lost their icon, so i manualy
fixed it.
I was wondering, but without deletion of the .local dir the broken icons remain?

Hope that is helpful?
