"The system is still remotely accessible: the webserver is still OK, and I can login using ssh (from another machine). It turns out Xorg is at 100% CPU load (see top below). I thought a "sudo kill -9 <pid of Xorg>" would solve the problem, but that killed the remote SSH and HTTP access. I then had to cold-boot the system using the power switch."
Having the exact same problem with my Kubuntu 64-bit install when coming out of suspend mode but the difference is that I have a Nvidia GeForce 6200 using the restricted drivers and an AMD Athlon 3400+ processor. Before I upgraded to Hardy under Gutsy suspend worked fine after adding the "nvidia" parameter to the white-list in the /etc/default/acpi- support file plus some other minor changes. I did purge the acpi-support package then again added the "nvidia" parameters to the white-list again with no success. The problem occurs with or without Compiz graphics enabled. ** Attachment added: "acpi-support" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14707723/acpi-support -- Hardy Heron: screen turns off, Xorg 100% https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219285 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
