I've got the same problem. I hear a white noise for a couple of seconds before the tam-tam sound of gnome login. I get the same problem even restarting the graphic session with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE and the re-logging in. Maybe the solution can be found in the log file ~/.xsession-errors , mine is that
