I can confirm this bug. I have Rhythmbox's Portable Media Player plugin disabled. However, whenever I have Rhythmbox running and then attach my iPod to the computer, Rhythmbox shows that it is attached and shows a progress bar at the bottom showing that it is importing all the songs from the iPod.
Also, if I plug in my iPod, Rhythmbox will start up automatically, even though it is not set in the Preferred Applications control panel (System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications) and then it will show the iPod attached and start trying to import all the files. This is very annoying as it didn't used to work this way. I prefer to use gtkpod to manage my iPod, but I like Rhythmbox as a media player and podcast client.
