Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

on an ubuntu installation originally installed as dapper then upgraded
per recommendations to edgy, then to hardy I have had multiple issues
where dbus-dependent applications (f-spot gvfs-mount etc) have refused
to start - all with some variant of the error: The maximum number of
active connections for UID <my uid> has been reached.

the fix seems to be to include the max_connections_per_user limit in the
/etc/dbus-1/system.conf file as defined here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=779992 (comment #5, although it
specifies a different file that does not appear in my installation)
