This might be connected with the post above (or other existing sound problems in even other versions of Ubuntu) I also suffered from no sound after upgrade. - When I upgraded I kept the alsa-config file (that is asked during install), as I have 2 soundcards (default = ICE1712 multi), and the order is set in there. - In GutsyG I had set in system -> pref. -> sound > sounds -> ESD off! (otherwise sound wouldn't work) - After upgrade I heard the login sound -> sound works? - In the sound dialog the sound playback devices were set to nonfunctional devices. I set them again tot the right device (the right soundcard), the (alsa) mixer device was still the same. - At the sounds-tab in the sound dialog I had to reset ESD to OFF!! When ON some programs did not have audio (vlc, youtube (flashplugin) etc.). - I had to re-logon (otherwise it wouldn't make a difference)
The conclusion might be ESD is giving a lot of problems. also: Audioproblems in new ubuntu installs (at least 3 times) are (were?), as I found them: - Having 2 soundcards, and after setting one as default, this is not as default as promised: After every reboot ubuntu chooses a different one. - ESD must be OFF -- no sound on upgrade to Hardy Heron https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
