John, This discussion relates to a specific bug backing up databases in gnome-pilot. It's not the best place to discuss bluetooth sync issues. Are you using gnome-pilot? If so, bluetooth synchronisation is not supported until version 2.0.16, which is not yet available in Ubuntu (as far as I know). You can try downloading the source from gnome.org and building it yourself if you want to give it a go.
