problem doesn't seem to be limited to beta. when I upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04 stable, this happened as well. Although Obsessed Mikey's fix did work for me. Being new to Ubuntu, this seems like a serious problem. I would have never thought to change hosts in my network settings to get access to my admin apps! Thank goodness for these forums.
