Yeah, I'm new to linux and kubuntu so I can't be of much more help than this. In 7.10 reconfiguring xorg didn't help, and I didn't know about krandrtray. 8.04 is really the first time I've used a non-windows system as my default OS, and other than this it seems to be working great.
