Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
The standard "ati" driver should conflict with "fglrx". I had a working Gutsy installation with an ATI Radeon 9250, where I had first tried the fglrx driver, and later started using the ati driver, which was all right. Upon upgrading to Hardy, I started experiencing X crashes with GL applications, especially screensavers. Specifically, the glsnake screensaver made X crash (and gdm restart it). glxinfo reported a problem in a library (sorry, I did not note which one). After investigation on the web, it turned out that some people had similar problems with conflicting drivers for Nvidia cards, which they solved by just uninstalling the unused xorg-video driver. So I purged fglrx, reinstalled ati and the problem was solved. I think this is enough reason to have ati kick out fglrx when it is installed or upgraded. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ati should conflict with fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229873 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
