Maybe it has something to do with my problem. I have had the same problem with the screensaver attached. I tried to switch down computer by pressing Switch Off button, and it worked (it shut down properly), so it's not a hard lockup. Anyways, I could not use X.org anymore.
I'm using a MSI 1217 laptop (Intel 965 Mobile Graphics), 1GiB RAM and so on. 32 bit version of Ubuntu.
