I'm having this same problem, except kded crashes randomly when I haven't pressed any of the special 'X' buttons. This usually occurs 12-24 hours after a reboot. I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 upgraded from 7.10 After the crash, all my media keys, except for the volume up/down keys, work on both the laptop keyboard and the external wireless keyboard I use most of the time,.
