Hello, I also own an ATI Radeon 8500. I had the same kind of bugs with compiz enabled in Feisty and Gutsy. Everything was solved when I changed my CRT screen. The problem came from the VGA connection : with a LCD and a DVI connection, there were no more defects (but still with LCD and VGA connection).
