Public bug reported:

Release: Hardy (8.04 LTS)
Version: 2.6.24.16.18
Expected: Screen powers off when suspend is requested
Actually happened: Suspend happens, but backlight remains on. On resume,
various error notifications appear such as "failed to suspend" or "policy
action unavailable".

I've always had some trouble with S3 suspend/resume on my X31.
Sometimes it fails to come back from suspend, which I think might
coincide with having suspended it while still on AC, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I now have a different and much more reproducible problem,
namely that S3 suspend seems to work okay, except that it fails to power
off the display. The machine appears to go to sleep but the backlight
is clearly still on, which kind of defeats the purpose of suspending ;-)

I've attached a dmesg from a suspend-resume cycle. These are probably
the relevant lines...
