Thanks Martin. I applied the update, the crash occured on first logout (because no reboot yet). After reboot, logged out successfully and tested this a few times, tested OK - logouts were pretty speedy as well.
However, when I tested restarting KDM, the crash behaviour still occurs. So I report successful logouts but crashes on sudo /etc/init.d/kdm-kde4 or selecting Restart X Server from KDM itself.
