Bryce, upstream have a patch that they claim may help. Please will you build a deb including that patch?
I've had a crack at building it myself but I haven't succeeded. I tried to follow the instructions at http://wiki.debian.org/XTips but the merge from the Debian repo to the upstream repo failed in a lot of places and I don't have the experience with this codebase to do a proper merge.
