I just fixed my HP with the suggestion from TerryG Quote: If that works, then put the following lines at the bottom of your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.
options snd-cmipci mpu_port=0x330 fm_port=0x388 options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-digout This works for me with Gutsy with Intel ICH7 sound. It may be different with ICH8 and Hardy. This is on Hardy upgraded from Gutsy.
