linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-16-generic also introduces this behaviour on 2.6.24-16 kernels.
Further, removing disable_hw_scan from /etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945 still makes the interface stops working with this module build. *However* when in its broken state it does not produce these messages (but then it doesn't work either). So the only way of getting it to work, at present, is to stick with the 2.6.24-16 module.
