Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 8.04

On a default installation (also in Live session), any 3D surface is broken into
lines and positioned in a pattern across the screen - it looks as if whatever
is placing the pixels of the GL 'canvas' into the screen buffer didn't know the
correct resolution, ending up in overwriting the wrong addresses. (I hope I'm
getting this right, I don't know much about X architecture/driver model). (Also
note, I'm using the card in 1680x1050, which is probably taking the old
integrated graphics to its limit)
Attached pictures are two screenshots - one with a GL screensaver supposedly in
the small preview window inside the dialog, the other one with the screensaver
'tested' in fullscreen. The colorful dots in the lines of the GL surface did
change color and from the looks of other screensavers, I assume the 3D is
working, it's just the surface being misplaced. (It's definitely different from
