Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: imagemagick

The latest version of identify shipped with Ubuntu 8.04 (ImageMagick
7:6.3.7.9.dfsg1-2ubuntu1) does not find single EXIF tags any more.

identify -format "%[EXIF:datetimeoriginal]" picturename.jpg

always returns an emtpy string, although it is still possible to list
ALL of the EXIF tags by using

identify -format "%[EXIF:*]" picturename.jpg

The bug has been confirmed by the ImageMagick developers and has been
fixed in the latest release, ImageMagick-6.4.1-0:
