I have had friends with Nvidia and this problem as well - just to advise. What is the status of this bug now? How can I apply the proposed patch?
I would also like to note that bugs like this are very bad. Its amazing that such a severe bug exists in the world's most popular linux distro. It seems every ubuntu release has at least a few major bugs like this - upgrading to the new version may get rid of some bugs but you get the new ones for free as well.
