I also used the amd64 desktop CD and the partitioner messed up my partitions table. I had 4 partitions (ntfs, ext3, swap and fat32) from my previous dual boot setup. Initially Hardy failed to install on the existing ext3, with a message about not having the permission to do so (sorry but it's been a while and cannot remember the exact message), then i deleted the partition and recreated it but I kept getting the same message. Eventually I used the live cd to run fdisk manually and fix the partitions by hand, but I noticed that the previous partitions had changed to Linux type.
