Binary package hint: ghostscript

Feisty on 32-bit intel
Description: Ubuntu 7.04
Release: 7.04

If I print a web page from Firefox to a PS file and view it with evince,
I can't cut and paste from it. If I convert it to PDF with ps2pdf, I
also can't cut and paste from it.

As recently as April 2007, I could do both.

If I send the ps file from Firefox to the website ps2pdf.com, I get back
a PDF file from which I can cut and paste.

The document info from pdfinfo says no encryption is turned on:

Producer: ESP Ghostscript 815.04
CreationDate: Sun Apr 13 23:08:20 2008
ModDate: Sun Apr 13 23:08:20 2008
Tagged: no
Pages: 2
Encrypted: no
Page size: 612 x 792 pts (letter)
File size: 26026 bytes
Optimized: no
PDF version: 1.4

Changing the PDF version to 1.2 or 1.3 changed nothing.

Attached zip archive contains p.ps, the file from firefox, and
cancopy.pdf and nocopy.pdf, produced as described above.

I'm looking for:
1. identification of where the problem lies and what it is (firefox making bad
ps? ps2pdf broken in feisty but fixed in later version used by ps2pdf.com?),
2. backported fix to ps2pdf,
3. clue about fixing already-converted PDF files from the past year without
re-visiting their web pages, re-printing, and re-converting with fixed ps2pdf.

I know the latter is really user support and you're in no way obligated,
but it would be helpful all the same if you know offhand how to do it.
