I'm having the same problem with my ASUS M2N-VM DVI motherboard. I initially setup my system on a the primery EIDE device, which when it's the only disk comes up as sda*.
Once I got that setup to my satisfaction with HH 8.04, I moved the six SATA drives from my old box to the new ubuntu box, and as long as the drives are connected, neither the installed Ubuntu, Debian latest unstable, or the Ubuntu 8.04 live CD are able to boot. Not sure what Debian does, but both version of Ubuntus go to the busybox initramfs prompt. Using the Ubuntu 8.04 live CD I can use F6 to remove the spash and quiet, but pci=nomsi doesn't appear to help. Because I have 6 SATA drives, I don't think it'd help to run all_generic_ide. It also doesn't appear to make any difference whether the BIOS has the SATA drives setup as JBOD or RAID. Obviously I'd like to get it working with RAID5. There have been a few times where I was able to boot into the OS, by messing around, looking at stuff, and typing exit enough at the initramfs prompt. I can also confirm that when quiet and spash are off, it attemps to bring up each SATA device a few times. -- initramfs error/problem ubuntu 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222176 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
