The "XDM_AUTH_MASK" solution does not work for me (AMD64, Kubuntu Hardy x64 KDE3, ATI Radeon X1650 Pro using fglrx driver). I also have Compiz enabled.
I usually get a blank screen when I try to logout. Shutdown or restart are fine. Sometimes, if logout is successful, I will experience a problem logging in again... I **correctly** enter my password at the login screen, then it looks like I am getting logged-in because the screen goes blank for a second, but then the login screen suddenly reappears. So I have to RE-enter the password to try a second time.
