Got the same problem on a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21M. No files or directories in /sys/class/backlight directory, no /sys/class/backlight/sony/ xbacklight -set 30 returns "No outputs have backlight property" spicctrl doesn't do anything (no error message, no change), all its outputs are empty or 0.
