I think this bug is solved for me. The solution for me was to not use
the front USB ports on the front of the case but instead plug my ipod
into one of the usb ports on the back of the case which are directly
mounted on the motherboard. I can only assume that the ipod was a bit
temperamental with the front usb ports - may be it wasn't getting enough
power, or the connecting cables provided with the case were sub-
standard.
