This is happening to me also. /dev/scd0 will only read/automount cdroms no data or video dvds. I install Martin's fix but this unfortunately did not help. Here is the result from the debug steps.
I insert any dvd and nothing happens. I try to click on it and get gnome-mount 0.8 ** Message: Drive /dev/scd0 does not contain media.
