Is this really a problem with Compiz or Nvidia drivers? I switched my window decorator from metacity to emerald and that seems to fixed this issue. Here is a link to an optimization bug with Metacity which may or may not be part of the problem: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478886
