Good News for everyone. After a week of trying to upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 I'm happy to report that the new version of Ubuntu is installed and running just fine. My best guess for an explanation as to why I had a problem to begin with is, must be bad download, corrupted somehow. I downloaded the ISO from closest mirror and made a start up disk. I was able to reinstall and it is running just fine, just like expected. I thank those who took the time to help, its appreciated believe me. I learned a lot through all this, so all is good. Again Thank you for your help.
