- This happened for me in Kubuntu Gutsy and now in the Kubuntu Hardy RC.
+ Indeed; reinstalled, became apparent I misdiagnosed.
- Upon installing kubuntu-restricted-extras, the /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc file is
modified, with two negative changes under the [X-*-Greeter] section:
- * "UseTheme=true" is commented, which makes it default to false.
- * "Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/kubuntu/" is changed to
"Theme=@@@ToBeReplacedByDesktopBase@@@".

- The result is that the KDM greeter login uses its default KDE theme
- instead of the designed Kubuntu theme.

- This is easily fixed by correcting the file in question, but then you'd
- need to know how to. I can't seem to find a GUI way of doing it (under
- System Settings or kcontrol). Further, the
- @@@ToBeReplacedByDesktopBase@@@ line suggests it may solve itself by
- dkpg-reconfiguring the kubuntu-desktop metapackage.
