It seems after the upgrade to 8.04. It's ok, but my 3D rendering isn't
going smoothly. I get flickering and sometimes I get black screen. If I
attempt to move the mouse or the item, I get the right screen but then b
lack again. Any ideas?

Subject: [Bug 153984] Re: dist upgrade tool 7.10 gutsy freezes

the tool still freezes for me from the brand new alternate cdromupgrade script,
or even from update manager...
what is going on!
is it a particular package that is messing this up??
i used the same sources to upgrade a different machine last night but with
different problems, no freezing...
for that machine the package messing it all up was nvidia-glx-legacy
here.. no idea.
more thoughts?

Status in Source Package "update-manager" in Ubuntu: Confirmed

Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager

when I opened update manager it said there was a dist upgrade available.
I used this method to upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 and the process was
smooth, so I figured I'd do it again. However this time it gets to the
second step and freezes when the bottom says checking package manager.
the update manager icon in the notification area tells me that there are
932 upgrades available but I'm not sure it's wise to use that method.
let me know what you need and I will gladly post it
