Found a fix which worked for my Dell 1501 and others. Please see bug #105512 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/105512/comments/9. As I said in my comment there, I don't know how to make the patch (yet!), or if indeed a patch ought to be made. Can anyone help?
