Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

Steps ran:

1. log in.
2. The update notifier shows me a yellow triangle. If I place the mouse over a
tooltip displays the following message: "update information is outdated".
3. Double click on the applet, the "Update Manager" dialog appears and displays
something like:

"Your system is up-to-date"
"The package information was last updated 24 days ago".

4. click Check

What happens

Nothing. Both messages stay the same.

Expected

The applet "outdated" message disappears. The message in Update Manager
dialog also disappears.

I've had this issue for several weeks now.

** Affects: update-notifier (Ubuntu)
