Public bug reported:

Excellent reproducible way to do soft lockup of your X server.
compiz is not required, for me it works with plain metacity.
Works in current Hardy.

open firefox and terminal.
in terminal enter sleep 10; killall -STOP firefox
then in 10 seconds switch to firefox and enter something to location bar to get
new fancy pop-up list, and wait until ff receives SIGSTOP.
now the X server is mostly locked up, albeit some panel applets continue to
refresh.

remedy: login via ssh and killall -CONT firefox

also note that alt-tab is not working when pop-up list is displayed.
firefox isn't required, you may try this with many other custom pop-up menus,
like network-manager tray menu, etc.

hardware - Intel i945GM, but i think this is irrelevant.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
