I have linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 (2.6.24-16.23) installed and am still seeing a hang after "Loading Hardware Drivers" in either regular or recovery mode.
The hang appears to happen at a different random point after the shpchp loads; sometimes after PC Speaker, sometimes after power button. I'm running AMD64, with an NVidia card, on a supermicro X7DAL-E with version 2.0B of their bios. Previous kernel (2.6.22) works fine.
