I managed to fix this problem, which is confirmed by other users in some of the last posts of this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=442483 Basically, I edited the evtouch.c source file in such a way that screen_width and screen_height are swapped if there is a left or right rotation. Unfortunately, this doesn't fix the problem for resolution changes.
