I did most of what techatdd suggested and it worked for me. 1) I did a 'modprobe -r iwl3945' and 'modprobe iwl3945'
2) I installed linux-backports-modules-hardy. 3) I ran 'depmod -ae' 4) I rebooted. 5) It worked! I don't know if any the above steps can be eliminated or not.
