I am the original reported of this bug. As I noted in comments above, this turned out to be a bug in the suspend scripts, and not a kernel bug.
I am running Hardy Heron (8.04) on my laptop, and the suspend scripts seem to have been cleaned up. I have had no problems with suspend/resume since I upgraded to Hardy.
