I just tested under 8.04 final release. Actually synaptic downloaded ntp packages but the configuration remained in manual mode. I insisted to "keep syncronized with....", asked me again if I want to download ntp and then does nothing!
After several tries I just closed the "Time and Date Settings" dialog and reopened it: things were already configured as I wanted. But why do I have to reopen the window to see the change being applied??
