I just tested under 8.04 final release.
Actually synaptic downloaded ntp packages but the configuration remained in 
manual mode.
I insisted to "keep syncronized with....", asked me again if I want to download 
ntp and then does nothing!

After several tries I just closed the "Time and Date Settings" dialog and 
reopened it:
things were already configured as I wanted.

But why do I have to reopen the window to see the change being applied??

This bug is important to be fixed!
