Public bug reported: Ubuntu 8.04 live, booted from CD Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop, "Centrino Duo" processor, 1680x1050 screen (hardly an uncommon manufacturer or model) Logitech M-RBB93 Bluetooth mouse.
Consider I am a novice user. I am able to install Windows XP successfully, every time I try. I run Ubuntu from the CD to try it out. 1. I can't set the screen resolution to higher than 1280x1024, so my display is lousy. 2. At that resolution, when I expand Firefox to full screen, it ends up larger than that, and I have scrollbars. 3. I double click on 'Experience Ubuntu.ogg' in the 'Examples' folder, Totem comes up, but is unable play the video. I see a black play window. (I have never had any success with Totem in any of the three previous releases of Ubuntu I've tried, on this and other PCs.) 4. I can't get my Bluetooth mouse working. I see it in the Bluetooth config window, I can set it as a trusted device. But I find no way in the preferences or admin screens, of actually enabling it as my mouse. (Maybe I missed something?) -Yes, I can go to a terminal window, search for a HIDD, and manually enable it. But why do I have to? Under Windows it works fine without doing a non-intuitive or non-GUI thing like that . Sorry guys, this release still isn't a Windows killer for me. Nor would I be able to recommend it to other novice PC users. Sigh. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- screen and Bluetooth mouse not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222223 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
