Powertop on my desktop with Hardy says 30 wakeups/second. Of that 10 are due my USB HID devices and other 10 were due ReiserFS doing some background task (I have no idea what, but it seems like it). I had Firefox with several tabs and Pidgin running. It really couldn't get much lower, Gnome has advanced a lot in the last 2 or so releases. When the powertop was released I saw some 150-250 on similar hardware.
