I've a problem similar to that. Trying to access the site of the Bank (https://www2.bancobrasil.com.br/aapf/principal.jsp), it keeps me pointing back to this login page, although all my information are correct. In contrary to the original reporter my browser doesn't crash nor freezes.
It works like a charm in Firefox 3.0b5 on Windows and with Konqueror on Hardy 8.04. Using OpenJDK-6.
