Is this bug ever going to be fixed?

Hardy is released now, and still I need to run "sudo module-assistant
auto-install alsa" in order to get alsa working properly on my laptop (tried
from a fresh install of hardy final yesterday, in the beta it worked fine, but
in the rc and final it's broken).
My laptop is a Zepto Znote 6314w, with intel HD audio (ALC861), and I run Hardy
64bit.
Without it, all I see in gstreamer-properties and gnome-sound-preferences is "0
ALC861 (OSS mixer)" (and some pulseaudio mixers as 1, 2 and 3).
If I try to start alsamixer I get:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or
directory

Is it only my imagination that the ubuntu forums are getting pretty many
threads about broken sound since the hardy release?
I'm sure this bug is the cause of at least some of those posts.
