I had this same issue on a dv9500 installing a Hardy beta from 2 weeks ago. I am going to give the final release a shot but I wanted to add one thing.
I too thought it was hung, when in fact I realized that if I pressed enter I was actually at a prompt - so it seems the installer punted in a kinda weird way - it was not actually hung. I hope that clue might help someone figure out what's wrong.
