I have the same problem, i.e. when standing on a clicked-upon drop-down bookmark folder sliding to another, compiz dies and metacity starts instead. There's a funny rainbox-color effect around the drop-downs as it happens and then all windows (naturally) gets collected in the first metacity desktop. Most annoying. :)
