I have also run into this with the Hardy release candidate. Compiz crashed 2 consecutive times after running the alternative CD + Internet upgrade. Also, I am using a 19" Dell widescreen. After the upgrade/reboot, the screen was approximately 3" to the right of the monitor and the screen resolution GUI had to be run, first changing the resolution to a 4:3 aspect setting and then back to 1440x900 before the screen lined up correctly. This also resolved the Compiz crashes.
