I just saw the 'white screen' issue during normal use, just switching to any text console, it goes away when switching back to xserver CTRL-F7. There seems to be a randomness to it.. I remember it happening in Gutsy with the Hardy kernel when closed / opened the lid, but I would press the lid button again and it would restore itself to normal. I am switching to the ATI driver after I post this, as this setup is too unstable for normal work. Five times today the system locked up at random (w/ external display VGA-0 in clone mode - not sure if related), to the point where the keyboard is unresponsive, the mouse pointer moves around the screen, and that's it. If I try to remote in via SSH I can't, can't even ping the machine. Two other times X segfaulted at random with:
