Have you posted a bug or a support request about your desktop's Ubuntu install? It sounds like there might be a dependancy error... can you try opening a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and running the following command? sudo apt-get upgrade What that command will do is tell your computer to try to upgrade all the progams on it to the latest version. Can you copy and paste the error message(s) that come up here please?
